NEWARK -- Very few computer screens in the Philadelphia area were watching the Flyers in their preseason opener, given the fact that the local football team was in the midst of racing out to a 3-0 record at the same time.
The Flyers should count themselves lucky that so few of their fans saw it.
From the start, it was apparent that the New Jersey Devils were on a different level than the Flyers on this particular night. By the time three and a half minutes had passed, Philadelphia was down 2-0. After six minutes, the deficit had doubled. And when the final buzzer sounded, it was 6-0 in favor of their North Jersey division rivals.
