The last time the Eagles played a Super Bowl in New Orleans they were tighter than a grandfather clock. Star running back Wilbert Montgomery described the Eagles locker room just before the game.
“I came into the clubhouse, and it was kind of silent,” Montgomery told the Daily News’ Stan Hochman that night in January 1981. “There wasn’t all the hollering we usually have. I felt it in the air that the team might be a little timid playing in this game.”
They sure were. 
The Eagles gave up two early touchdowns and the magic of that 1980 season evaporated faster than you can say Jim Plunkett. Oakland, 27-10 final.
