Watching this game was a lot of fun. Living in DC limits how often I get to see the Sixers outside of national broadcasts, so having this one on NBA TV was great. The MSG broadcast tried to minimize the gap between this team and the 2024 Sixers, but the difference is pretty clear.

Joel Embiid’s continued improvement in lateral and vertical mobility was the biggest takeaway. With the emergence of Maxey and VJ, Embiid no longer has to shoulder the same offensive decision-making load. That allows him to anchor the defense at an elite level without being taxed on both ends.

Paul George has also been impressive. Despite his salary, he seems comfortable embracing a glue-guy role — defending, spacing, and keeping the offense flowing. If George is willing to operate in a George Lynch–type role, it’s usually a strong indicator of team depth, role clarity, and buy-in. That kind of sacrifice is often what separates good teams from serious contenders.
