Simply can’t shake the fact that if things break right for him, he’ll be an ideal sixth man. You shouldn’t be looking for second unit talent in the first round in a draft considered to be deeper than others. That front court– for the 50 games Embiid won’t play in– is abysmal as it stands now and they don’t have any cap room/assets to fix it through free agency. I just don’t get it.

Love the pick. Best player available and Sixers need more players who can handle the ball.

I’m sick of these claims that the Sixers got a steal at pick 22 and that Gansey was great to stick to choosing the BPA there. This is the same trap Morey fell into. I believe that Philon will be a very good offensive pg, but with Maxey ahead of him, he will only play 10 – 15 minutes per game, and who knows what he will amount to on defense. We know he isn’t big enough to guard even half the pgs in the league effectively.

Gansey, like Morey, did not find a way to trade up where he could draft a good PF or decent backup C, which are their biggest weaknesses. Look at the Sixers draft history the past 10 years – the best forward or center they drafted was Paul Reed (don’t count Mikal Bridges as he was traded away immediately). Every Sixer but Embiid is matched against a bigger, taller player most nights. No wonder their rebounding sucks. Unfortunately, the fastest way for the Sixers to be a real contender again is to trade Maxey for frontcourt upgrades (either high draft picks or vets or both).
