Tyson Foerster’s extension: Breaking down the deal, and why the Flyers went short-term

At some point this offseason, it was a virtual lock that Tyson Foerster would be signing a contract extension with the Philadelphia Flyers. General manager Daniel Briere decided that he had no interest in dragging things out.
On Thursday, the Flyers announced that the 23-year old Foerster -- a pending restricted free agent come July 1 -- had re-upped with the organization, signing a two-year contract worth $7.50 million. A team source confirmed that Foerster will make $3.50 million in Year 1 of the deal, and $4.0 million in Year 2, averaging out to a $3.75 million AAV, which will be his cap hit through the 2026-27 season.
