Briere did great. The only remote fear that Flyers fans would have is that Poehling pairs with Gauthier and they become a top tier twosome lighting up scoreboards across the West…… and I don’t think that is likely.

When I first saw the headline, I thought, “Oh, no. How much did we give up?” Then when I read the details, I thought, “That’s it?”

From a strictly tactical standpoint, Briere just hit a home run.

Its not the 1-C they desperately need, but it shows he has been working. The price give up was negligible, so why not? Perhaps the kid becomes a 2-C by some miracle, but worst case he is another 3-C or a roster cut to save cap space in a year. Can’t have too many 3-C’s on the roster, I believe the team with the most 3-C’s wins, or something like that. But truthfully, there is nothing not to like about this trade. But the heavy lifting awaits. DB has to get that elusive 1-C, 1-D, and 1-G. Until then, the work is nowhere near finished, of course. Should be a fascinating draft coming up. We are about to learn a lot about our front office. They need to come out of it filling one of these three key spots for the next decade. By trade, by astute talent evaluation and drafting, or by luck I suppose. Good write-up Charlie, as usual.
