With Sixers deal, Trendon Watford gets to reunite with his best friend

Trendon Watford and Tyrese Maxey have intertwined roots dating back to their high school days, when the Texas natives first met at a basketball camp. In a role reversal, Watford says, it was Maxey who, at that point, was a relatively unheralded player. The current All-Star claims that Watford and his friends initially iced him out because Maxey wasn't on the recruiting radar.
But that meeting around a decade ago planted the seeds for a long-term relationship. They shared rooms at the McDonald's All-American Game. They immersed themselves in each other's families, building relationships with siblings, parents, uncles, the works. They talked trash after they would play (and beat) one another ...
