With Maxim Shabanov off the table, is the NHL door now wide open for Alex Bump and Porter Martone?

The general assumption in Philadelphia Flyers fan circles -- and perhaps even within the walls of the Philadelphia Flyers organization -- was that Maxim Shabanov, top KHL free agent forward, would be the final piece of general manager Daniel Briere's offseason.
There were numerous reports -- particularly in Russian-language outlets -- linking Shabanov to the Flyers. And by July 1, even Briere was willing acknowledge that the Flyers were one of the finalists, and that they were "hopeful" Shabanov would choose them, with a soft smile on his face.
That hopefulness died on Wednesday evening. Maxim Shabanov will be a New York Islander, not a Philadelphia Flyer.
