Re Michkov – the goal of your top scorer isn’t to win analytics points, but to actually create scoring chances, and here, Michkov didn’t do much. He simply doesn’t seem to have a lot of chemistry with his linemates.

And Coots flubbing a 2-0 breakaway was just grim. Always been a big fan of him as a player and a Flyers but he’s a plus 3C now.

One thing about comparing Michkovs season so far to last year is , Zegras is on the team. Hard to appreciate a developing talent when we have a player doing what Zegras has done so far .

One interesting thing that has stood out for me this season is a comment i read somewhere, which went along the lines of – Torts didnt impose a lot of structure on the offense but let the players be creative, whereas Tocchet wants the Flyers to play a certain way in the offense (presumably, puck control and go into the high danger areas).

I dont know as of yet how this will play out, but the downside of having a specific structure to O is that all players are forced to play the same way. And I wonder to what extent that is affecting Michkov. He simply hasn’t looked anywhere as impactful this season as earlier, in terms of actually creating chances on ice.

I have full faith in Michkov’s skills and motivation, and realize that his fitness issues are probably making things a little less than ideal – but the reality is what it is.

This is what concerned me about the Tocchet hire before it even happened. He’s a coach who does not emphasize creativity, especially on offense. As time goes on, I’m worried he’ll be increasingly mismatched with his own players.

This was one of those games, in my opinion, that shows how far the Flyers still have to go to be one of the upper echelon teams in the league. Not enough firepower and not enough discipline and mostly getting dominated for an entire period, maybe two.

I’m gonna miss Bobby Brink so badly when we inevitably trade him away to make room for all our young talented wingers.

I agree, he is a gamer for sure but he is streaky at best like a smaller Tippett. Still, I root for him and maybe playing with Michkov and back with Cates will step his game up.

Brink’s honest opinion said it best and I couldn’t agree more. They led off the gas and paid the price. This was a wasted opportunity for sure. Even the skills competition looked off. While this game may not be on Ersson, he does need to have an above average game on occasion. Simply being average is not good enough every time out. I am convinced he will never have good numbers. With the prospects in the pipeline he seems like the odd man out. I understand the players loyalty to Sam and Torts’ loyalty to him but Tocchet’s seems like blind loyalty to me.
