On Friday morning, Philadelphia Flyers development camp came to a close, with the conclusion of the yearly 3-on-3 tournament. Now, that may have eventually been just a prelude to the much bigger Flyers-related news that would emerge later in the day. But the magnitude of the Leo Carlsson offer sheet should not make development camp an afterthought — it remains one of the key team events of the summer.
Over the course of four on-ice days, basically all of the Flyers’ top prospects showed their skills at the Flyers Training Center in Voorhees, building to two separate scrimmages — a 5-on-5 scrimmage on Thursday evening, and the aforementioned 3-on-3 tournament Friday morning. It was a chance not only to perform for the attending fans, but also to make an impression on the Flyers’ braintrust, which watched from their perches above the ice.
So how did those prospects look? Hopefully, I can provide some insights.

Thank You, Charlie. I am very optimistic. I saw clips of Solo and he can skate. I knew he would be a project, and I expect a very good post draft year back at Juniors. barkey will be a solid contributor and Martone is a future Star. I am looking for Bonk to have a really strong training camp along with Alex Bump. With a big rebound from Michkov, and a better back up Goalie, I think we will see an improved squad even if we do not get Carlsson. Not to mention Foerster for a full year, and I expect him to go right past that 30 Goal mark!

Where was Jack Berglund?
Charlie O'Connor
AuthorAttended, did not skate. Same thing as Martone, basically: played a lot of hockey this year well into June, and they didn’t want to overdo it with him.

Great article, Charlie. Always really look forward to your dev camp articles. I didn’t see anything here/elsewhere on Quinn, was he on the ice? Had a big year last year and was hoping he might be a sneaky good late rounder…
Charlie O'Connor
AuthorYeah, he had his moments. I’m less of a believer on him than a lot of online public models are, though.

Ok, thanks

You weren’t kidding about the Nesbitt skating clip. Basically came to a full stop twice when doing the edge work. Really would have hoped to see more progress with him there.
Definitely excited to see how Sokolovskii and Amico do this year, given the raw ability of both. Would love to see another great year out of Barkey, especially if they give him an extended shot down the middle.

Agreed on all counts and very happy/excited for Amico, that knee stuff he went through sounded rough. Imagine if both him and Soko make it…

Great rundown of the camp!

Fantastic stuff, Charlie – thanks.
I am quite bullish about Nesbitt. If skating is the big flaw in his game, I am inclined to trust the Flyers brain trust that I can be fixed, given their track record here.
And Soko sounds like a potential 1B defenseman if he pans out – the shut down partner to a more offensively gifted Dman.
Very promising indeed!

An Amico/Sokolovskii pairing sounds like it could be fun to have.
