The ALLCITY & PHLY G.O.A.T. Debate! Top Philly Sports Uniforms All Time

I’ve worked in Philadelphia sports media for 2+ decades, and one conversation that always came up was bringing back the Eagles‘ Kelly Green as an alternate uniform. In 2025, Birds Diehards finally got their wish as Kelly Green returned to Lincoln Financial Field. Fans rejoiced and showed up at merchandise stores, making it a wildly popular uniform & merch piece. Did the Kelly Green become the #1 Philly sports uniform of all time as voted on by Diehards & our staff? The Sixers 80-82 Whites & Reds always receive love in this discourse; the Phillies powder blues are always a fan favorite; the Sixers relaunched Spectrum jerseys you can spot all over the boardwalks down the shore; and of course, the classic Flyers sweater is perpetually one of the NHL’s best. Let’s take a look at how the vote played out!

In a surprise to no one, after seeing the town’s reaction last year to the Kelly Greens, it takes down the top spot as the best Philly uniform ever! The argument against these uniforms I’ve always heard is that it’s “A uniform of a losing generation of Eagles football!” Well, I’ve got news for you: Norman Braman & Buddy Ryan can’t hurt you anymore. This uniform has next to nothing to do with that era anymore; Jeffrey Lurie & the Eagles’ midnight green era completely cleansed the losing ways & made the Eagles a two-time Super Bowl champion. It’s ok to have the Kelly Greens in the rotation. Please never, ever, ever bring back those “Steagles” uniforms of years past.

Coming in at #2 were the baby blue Phillies uniforms, another homage to the late 70’s & ’80s, when the Phillies first wore these uniforms during a winning era, beginning in 1972 and ending in 1988. They were primarily the Phillies’ road uniforms during this era. The team brought them back in the 2018 season, and they’ve been a part of the mix since.

The 2001 Sixers jerseys were always talked about as the most popular Sixers uniforms, probably because it was the only Sixers team to reach the Finals in the modern era. Winning definitely makes a uniform more popular in my opinion. I always hated the broad shoulder straps during its peak run, but the newly updated “normal” shoulder straps definitely improved the uniforms. I personally prefer the White Spectrum uniforms to the blacks, but I only got 1 vote! The people have spoken; the black Sixers uniform comes in the #3 spot.

Rounding out the vote are perhaps two classic, clean-looking, all-time, timeless uniforms. A crown jewel of the NHL uniform landscape, the Flyers’ classic orange jersey takes the #4 spot. A timeless classic that can have trim & other small updates, but truly just a classic NHL gem. A great logo & and great color pattern to boot; good to see the Flyers sweater make the top 5. And then the classic Phillies red pinstripes, a timeless baseball classic that will not be on the fields of one of baseball’s oldest teams.

Here’s how the voting broke down: the Kelly Greens ran away with the #1 & simply never looked back. Was hardly even a contest for the top spot.

Methodology and quality controls

  • Rankings used a 5–1 point system: five points for first place through one point for fifth place.
  • Spelling, capitalization, obvious shorthand, and name variants were normalized before scoring.
  • Team, color, era, alternate, and home/away uniform descriptions were consolidated into consistent market-specific labels.
  • When the same final answer appeared more than once within one ranked question, it counted once at its highest placement; lower repeats were discarded.
  • In a published uniform Top 5, a general team-only bucket was omitted when a specific uniform for that same team was also listed. If a general bucket stood alone, it displayed as the team name without “Unspecified.”
  • Tied point totals share the same numerical rank. Display order then uses first-place votes, ballot mentions, and alphabetical order.
  • ALLCITY point totals reconcile exactly to the sum of the five markets, with zero formula errors in the final workbook.
