Sure, Philadelphia Flyers training camp started just a week ago. That’s true. It’s also true that the Philadelphia Flyers regular season schedule begins in less than a week from now.
That’s not much time for general manager Daniel Briere and his staff to make their final roster decisions.
On Wednesday, they did go a long way towards whittling down their roster, removing seven players from camp officially and waiving six others, presumably with the intention of sending most if not all down to their AHL affiliate (the Lehigh Valley Phantoms) before final rosters are due on Monday evening. But work still needs to be done for the Flyers to meet the 23-man roster requirement.
So with only two preseason games remaining and final decisions looming this weekend, let’s quickly run through where the Flyers stand, broken down by positional group.

I really wish Risto’s spot was open and we had an additional 1st rd pick / player to discuss.

Well, if there was a 1st available for Risto they would have taken it but Detroit decided they preferred Faulk.
Knowing what we know now, the trade that would have made more sense was with the Isle to fill their center need which assumes they didn’t extend Dvorak.
But hindsight is always 20/20 and both those guys were contributors to their run to the playoffs and I personally believe that success and the fans embracing the team after game 4 elimination has real value.

There is certainly value in an extra spot, 5.1M in cap space, and a bottom 15 first round pick.
But, we are a better team with him in the lineup. That has value, too.

I think Jett and Knuble should get heavy minutes together with the Phantoms to start the year. There will be opportunities along the way if they do well. It’s a long season.

Yeah, no way in hell Luchanko has any business in the nHL right now. Send him down, make him the 1C, play him till his legs fall off and he learns how to shoot the puck and maybe score a goal or two.
