PHILADELPHIA — It took three tries, but the Philadelphia Flyers now have their first win of the 2026-27 season. Preseason, that is.
Dressing nearly a full complement of NHLers, the Flyers performed as expected and took apart a weak Boston Bruins roster, cruising to a 2-0 victory. Joseph Woll secured a 28-save shutout in his first appearance in front of the Philadelphia faithful, and only the heroics of Michael DiPietro in the other net kept the game from being far more lopsided in the Flyers’ favor.
But the top story of the night, perhaps unsurprisingly, was once again Matvei Michkov.

For years, Flyers prospect development has been poor, in my opinion. I think its changed. This team has real depth now and NHL players (especially on D) will get more seasoning in Lehigh. 👍 I might need to go to a few Phantoms games this year. I think Danny will make a significant trade (could envision Tippett, Cates, picks going for a 1D, or skilled C) for a difference maker in the next few months.

Nice to see Michkov et al looking strong, but in the end the season depends on finding a power play system that works. I’m not holding my breath.
