The Philadelphia Union have one regular season match left on their 2023 schedule and it’s pretty simple for Jim Curtin’s squad..win and you clinch the No. 3 seed in the Eastern Conference.
A trip to Gillette Stadium is vastly approaching for the Union, who will square off with the New England Revolution on October 21 at 6 p.m. ET.
The Union are unbeaten in their last three head-to-head meetings with the Revs, last earning a 3-0 victory at Subaru Park on May 20.
Here is a closer look at which seed the Union could finish in on Decision Day:
No. 3 seed
The Union can guarantee themselves the No. 3 seed with a win over the Revs in Foxborough. However, if they draw against the Revs, they would also clinch the No. 3 seed with a Columbus Crew loss or tie against CF Montreal.
No. 4 seed
A draw or loss in Foxborough could also drop the Union into the No. 4 seed. A Crew win over CF Montreal paired with a Union loss against the Revs would drop the Boys in Blue into the No. 4 seed.
In addition, a Union loss paired with a Crew draw could also lead to Columbus leapfrogging them into the No. 4 seed.
The Top-Four teams will each host playoff matches, pending they are the higher seed in the matchup.
FC Cincinnati has already clinched the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference and the Supporters’ Shield. Orlando City has already clinched the No. 2 seed.
A total of five Eastern Conference teams will be fighting for the final two playoff spots on Decision Day. Those teams are CF Montreal, New York Red Bulls, Chicago Fire, Charlotte FC, and New York City FC.
