Daniel Gazdag and Hungary are headed to the 2024 European Championship.
The Philadelphia Union midfielder played 45 minutes on Sunday in Hungary’s 3-1 qualifying victory over Montenegro. Gazdag was substituted off at halftime before a second-half brace from Dominik Szoboszlai and an insurance goal from Adam Nagy helped the Hungarians claim three points at home.
Hungary went through its eight qualifying matches unbeaten, earning five wins and three draws. They finished four points in front of second-place Serbia, as well as seven points clear of third-place Montenegro.
It marked the first time in Hungary’s history that they registered an unbeaten record in qualifying.
Gazdag also played nine minutes off the bench in last week’s 2-2 draw with Bulgaria. In total, the veteran midfielder featured in five of Hungary’s eight qualifying matches.
2024 will mark the third-consecutive European Championship involvement for Hungary. They reached the Round of 16 in 2016 before suffering elimination at the group stage of 2020.
Gazdag has earned 23 caps to date with Hungary, scoring four goals. The 27-year-old has yet to feature in the European Championship during his international career.
The draw for the 2024 EURO’s will take place on Thursday, November 23 at 6 a.m. ET in Nyon, Switzerland.
