Still can’t believe we won that game. Play calling was terrible and is highlighted by the fact that the biggest play of the game came from Hurts changing the play at the line. At least the DC came to play last night. Thank you Sean Desai!

Great article on a wild game, Zach.

So this is completely off topic, but this is the format in which I can respond to comments you made this week about the Super Bowl. Specifically, the idea that it was more of a situation of the Eagles, and by extension their fans, needing to “tip their cap” to Mahomes instead of laying blame at the feet of Jonathan Gannon. A loss to the most talented QB in the history of the sport is nothing to be ashamed of in a vacuum, I agree. But that was a very, very good Eagles defense in the 2022 season, and the Chiefs’ performance was tied for the 6th-best of any team that season out of 568 total performances.

It was the Chiefs’ best game based on success rate all season. The Chiefs! Their best game all season! The issue fans have with Gannon’s approach to that game is not that he lost to Patrick Mahomes. That game was basically a 99th percentile level performance *for Mahomes*. As in, miles and miles above the already outrageous standard that he has set for himself in his NFL career. And then Jonathan Gannon had the audacity to blame some players from the defense that carried him all season for coverage busts. Even if they were to blame, it is incredibly petty, and frankly lame, of him to say that.

Sorry for the long comment, but I needed to respond. Gannon is perhaps the all-time biggest loser in the history of sports in this city, and I cannot fathom any attempts to defend him.

Again, great article and coverage of this game. All stats came from Sheil Kapadia’s twitter account.

Zach,

Hats off to you for working your way through an illness, writing an article and, with little sleep (and an uncooperative Uber driver!) make it home only to do yet another podcast. Great coverage. Get well soon and have a Happy Thanksgiving. And get some sleep. Yikes.
