Not many Phillies starters made the trip to Venice, FL to play Chris Sale and the Braves on Sunday. The Phils lost, 3-2.

Here’s a look at the good, the bad, and the ugly from the game:

The Good

  • Alec Bohm collected three hits in three plate appearances. He’s five for seven to begin the spring, with a home run and three RBI.
  • Connor Brogdon started the game for the Phillies, pitching a scoreless inning. Two of the first three batters Brogdon faced reached base, but he escaped any damage by getting Matt Olson to fly out to left and Marcell Ozuna to fly out to center. Brogdon is in the mix for a bullpen role on the Opening Day roster.
  • Yunior Marte, another pitcher fighting for a roster spot, walked one and struck out one in his own scoreless inning. Marte’s fastball sat around 96-98 mph and touched 99.
  • Each of RHP Taylor Lehman, RHP Brett Schulze, RHP Andrew Schultz, and RHP Carlos Francisco pitched an inning without allowing a run.
  • Jake Cave went two for three with a double and scored on an Austin Riley error.

The Bad

  • Phillies hitters not named Bohm or Cave combined for just three hits in 29 at-bats. One of those hits came from Cristian Pache, who also struck out three times. David Dahl went one for three and Esteban Quiroz picked up the other hit.
  • Cave’s double was the Phillies’ only extra-base hit of the game.
  • The Phils went 2/13 with runners in scoring position and left 11 on base.
  • RHP Noah Skirrow allowed two hits, a walk, and a run in one inning of work.
  • RHP Paxton Thompson served up a two-run home run to Orlando Arcia in the sixth.

The Ugly

  • Johan Rojas, Edmundo Sosa, and Garrett Stubbs combined to go 0/10 with five strikeouts.

The Phillies play the Blue Jays on Monday at the Jays’ park in Dunedin, FL. 1:07 p.m. start.
