Great job as always Charlie! Quick question. Over the last couple of days on X there have been some comments/comparisons regarding the Hextall drafts not panning out. Looking back, how much, if at all, do you think hiring Dave Hakstol impacted the development of that group? I ask, because when I look at last year’s team, and how so many younger players made nice jumps forward with that coaching staff, I can’t help but think that Hakstol and his staff hindered some of those players.

The point about not drafting players based on who they are now but on who they will become – that’s key.
Bonk was widely panned as a boring pick last year but has come around quite well. I feel optimistic about Luchanko as well.
(Not really relevant to this article but that sentence reminded me of it).

On the flip side, when looking at historical drafts, it is almost always best to just pick the player woth the best offensive stats left on the draft board, with no consideration for anything else other than age.
