Salisbury: Dick Allen’s greatness is finally appreciated with his election to baseball’s Hall of Fame

Greatness takes time to appreciate.
Phillies owner John Middleton spoke those words back in September 2020 and they resonated loudly and joyously on Sunday night.
Dick Allen is a Hall of Famer.
Finally.
Deservedly.
Four years after his death at the age of 78, Allen was elected to the Hall of Fame by the 16-member Classic Baseball Era Committee.
Former Pittsburgh Pirates great Dave Parker was also elected. Twelve votes (75 percent) were needed for election. Parker received 14. Allen, who missed election by one vote in 2014 and 2021, received 13.
