I’m with Lane Johnson regarding next week. Reaching 2000 yards is a major milestone, and as much as I would like to see Saquon pass Eric Dickerson (albeit with an extra game), given that it’s a meaningless game in terms of playoff seeding and their bye week was so early in the season I would prefer that he (and the other starters) rest up for their first round matchup.

I would’ve gone with the extra game logic too, until somebody on the Diehard chat pointed out that Barkley has had far fewer carries so far than Dickerson used to get it. So I think the achievement would still be real, if he got it.

Yes and no, I am a look at the carries guy myself for justification but there is something to be said of Dickerson getting 379 carries in 16 games and not breaking down. Longevity and availability with that work load is also part of the reason it is such an accomplishment.

Dickerson averaged 23.7 carries a game to Saquon’s 21.6. However, Barkley also has 140 more yards receiving and 33 receptions to Dickerson’s 21 receptions. The beauty of football and sports is we can argue each way.

Great article, ZB, and I confess that I’m torn about what they should do. I get the arguments for both takes, though I think I might be leaning toward resting (not that I get a vote).

One little nit-pick, though, the first spelling of Mailata has a typo: “We have 48 more yards,” Landon Dickerson told Jordan Maialta.
