I think your take is spot-on. Also, I’m with you that people should stop with “the NHL draft is rigged” talk. As you correctly pointed out, no reputable accounting firm would risk destroying their reputation and business by getting involved in something like that. And in the world would all of the owners go along with it? Even setting aside lack of motive, too many moving on parts for a conspiracy like that to remain undetected. Bill looked foolish in the last podcast.

Man, I love this team, but they’re like a kiddie-coaster. The hills aren’t high and dips aren’t (mostly) far down. It’s just a bunch of small hills in the middle.

This is exactly what one should expect from an under-talented Torts coached team. On the playoff bubble, draft pick in the 15 to 25 area, no man’s land, which is hard to accept when a critical rebuild is necessary. He’s a great coach, but you will not get an elite talent in the draft while he is on the bench. So we enjoy the fools gold for now. Forget a cup. Ain’t happening until the elite talent is procured, no matter how good Torts is.

I don’t blame Torte.for this – he’s a coach and his job is to get the best out of the players, which is what he is doing.
Any angst re not tanking should be directed at the front office. However, given that it’s been 2 years and the Flyers have stuck to their claims that they are not going to deliberately lose, I think the tank brigade needs to just accept it and move on to the next stage of grief.
I wouldn’t mind a top 5 pick – but i’d hate it if the team deliberately chose to lose. They something you don’t do, period, and it goes against the integrity of the sport.

The Flyers: just good enough to keep being bad.

Have they won since this piece?
