A risk worth taking: Evaluating Owen Tippett and his new contract

In order to build a true Stanley Cup contender via their planned rebuild, the Philadelphia Flyers were always going to have to take calculated risks.

Handing nearly $50 million dollars to a player with a career-high goal total of 27 is certainly a risk. But it also has the potential to provide significant reward.

On Friday, general manager Daniel Briere and the Flyers announced that they had re-signed winger Owen Tippett to a massive eight-year, $49.6 million contract extension.
