A little over a year ago, the Eagles drafted Tyler Steen in the third round, 65th overall, and head coach Nick Sirianni seemed to leave the door open for Steen to start at right guard as a rookie.
I thought this was extremely unlikely. The Eagles had drafted Cam Jurgens the year before, in the second round, to be Jason Kelce’s successor. The team was cross-training Jurgens at guard in the meantime. Coaches really liked Jurgens. Having him line up next to Kelce all year, talking through double-teams and blocking calls --- it seemed like a no-brainer, unless Jurgens completely self-destructed.
