Brad Shaw will not return as Philadelphia Flyers assistant coach under Rick Tocchet

In the wake of Wednesday's announcement that the Philadelphia Flyers had chosen Rick Tocchet as their 25th head coach in team history, one key question remained: what would happen to the 24th person to hold the job? Interim head coach Brad Shaw -- Flyers' assistant coach before being named to the interim role -- took over in the wake of John Tortorella's ouster on March 27, and was a viable candidate for the main job throughout the process.
Shaw, however, ultimately did not get the job. But there was still a chance that Shaw could return to his previous role in charge of the defensemen and penalty kill. PHLY has learned that option was closed off on Thursday, however.
