When the invaluable public salary cap tracking website CapFriendly made its annual update, officially changing the default cap tracker from a projection of the just-concluded 2022-23 NHL season to the looming 2023-24 campaign, eagle-eyed Philadelphia Flyers fans made a quick -- and concerning -- observation.
No NHL team, at least at first glance, has more cap charges on their books for 2023-24 than their Flyers.

Unsurprisingly, panic and outrage ensued.
The Flyers, after all, are supposed to be in the midst of a rebuild. Yet somehow, they were right back in "salary cap hell," with just $503,572 available to spend with four more roster spots to fill.
