I blame both torts and York . They both are not good enough .When will the Flyers BE Good Enough( WWTFBGE )?
I saw three losses in four days last week in person. Get over it both of you and try winning some games. Five years running no playoffs 🤷‍♂️

It seems like Torts literally only has one tool in his motivational toolbox: punishment.

After a while, that gets really old.

We’re not in the room, Jason, but it’s not realistic to assume that Tortorella goes on year after year based on nothing but punishment and fear of punishment.

Given the improvements to the games of Sanheim, Drysdale and Risto under Torts and his coaches, I’d say there’s more to it than punishment. He’s also said multiple times that sometimes, the benching isn’t just a punishment but also a chance to give the player some time to observe/learn from a distance.

And yes, it also has an element of accountability. His job is to get the players to play better – not to nurse their feelings. Does anyone think York was playing like a top pairing D-man? Does anyone think York WASNT getting coaching the past 3-4 months? So what is to be gained by just letting play the way he is right now?

Either he improves, in which case they extent him – or he stays the way he is, in which case he doesnt fit the team’s plans. I have no basis for deciding if THIS approach is better than one of a hundred other things he can do – but it isn’t as if maintaining status quo was a better option.

Several months of playing sub-standard hockey and – by his own admission not being as good as he was earlier: what exactly is York expecting? More time to keep being an inconsistent D-man? It isn’t as if he didnt get time to turn his game around and get better.

The goal is to evaluate who are the players they want to keep and who are the players they dont – not to keep an inconsistent York happy.
