I may be one of 5 Eagles fans who didnt have an issue with Siriani’s 4th down decisions last weekend against the Falcons.

But my god, he was atrocious against the Saints. There is being “smart aggressive” and there is being stupid – and the decision to go for 4th and 1 at the end of the 1st was heinous. It’s the mindset of someone who is behind and decides to risk everything on a “double or nothing” type of play.

I disagree and like what Bo said the only reason you go for it there is to potentially spring a long one for a touchdown. One can quibble if the Saints also knew that and were prepared as such but ya have to trust your guys to get the one yard.

You may dislike the thought process but at least he is consistent with it. It is hard for me to be upset about ‘traditional conservative football’ when I’d argue the greatest play in Philadelphia history is the ‘Philly Special’ which is literally going for it when you could have just taken points before the half.

Seems like Siriani and Hurts go down trusting their guys

Also:

Zach, would it be possible for you to provide some details on Hurts’s time to throw? How many passes has he thrown under 2”, in 2-2.5”, 2.5-3”, and >3” (or whatever groupings of time make sense).

90% of the time, he plays really well. 29/38 for 311 yards is a very good stat line, especially against a legit-good D. It’s those bone-headed INTs that make him so maddeningly inconsistent and result in the offense playing with a handicap. The O has enough talent be successful despite that handicap, but those mistakes prevent the O from reaching its true potential.

Stupid mistakes aside, I am seeing progression from Hurts – even between Game 1 and now, he’s looking less likely to bail on the pocket and is sticking around trying to find open WRs. And he finally just threw a ball away instead of tucking and running for a 1 yard loss. He’s clearly going through his progressions as well.

The one area that i think is below average is time to release and i dont know if that is just my impression or something backed up by stat – and if so, is it because of the nature of the plays or some other reason. A deep dive into this would be super helpful.

The decision to try a 60 yarder up 1 was also a heinous decision. Nick was just stupid when you consider how the D was playing. Sometimes you just need to get points. I want my coach being aggressive, just not stupid.

Before the fake tush-push, the cameras showed Sirianni covering his mouth while giving extensive (and repeated) instructions to Hurts. These might have been about what to do after the play, but I guessed that the tush-push was going to be faked because it’s such a well-known, rehearsed, and executed play.
I think the Saints felt the same way.

Looks like Fangio and Moore are getting a feel for their players. Hopefully they keep getting better.

The fumble was reckless and inexcusable, but I don’t have a huge problem with the pick. Those types of throws are required to score in the red zone, Smitty needs to flatten and at least cause an incompletion.

Yeah, it seems Hurts really trusts his guys. More often than not to me it seems he throws believing AJ or Smith is better than who they are up against.

Unreal not kicking field goal before halftime, made zero sense

To me the decisive thing about the hit on Devonte was that he was moving backwards at the time, losing yards. If the play was live the defense would want to accelerate his backward movement, not stop it. The only reason for the hit would be to hurt or injure the player
