So they have been working on the Mannion offense for how long, now? 3 months? 6 months? 9 months?

And they can’t execute? For all the money going to this offense, they can’t “execute” it?

All I can see is an incoherent offensive game plan, no effective scheme, no creativity, no adjustments, no counters to the blitz and outright second half impotence. This is two seasons now. We are wasting one of the premier players in the league in his prime with this nonsense. That is all execution?

One other point – was Howie blind or asleep to the collapse of the OL? Age, injuries, etc all following the Super Bowl appear to have been overlooked…

The floor is yours.

Fair questions, John.

I believe Howie went into each of the last two (or three) offseasons with a plan to target offensive line in the early rounds of the draft but pivoted once there were runs on offensive tackles ahead of them. In our shadow draft show back in the spring I said I’d rather have seen them take Max Iheanachor for the reasons you stated above.

The thing that worries me about this offense is how much time they sunk into working on an under-center, outside zone system with play-action tied to it. The dropback passing game always seemed secondary. They’ve been so bad at it the last few weeks, it’s hard to envision the offense’s belief in this new system staying strong enough to stick with it.

I hate that I’ve arrived here but as someone who has defended Hurts against people (who largely just see stats and don’t watch games), it’s getting exhausting to try and find excuses for the same issues. The first turndown of the game is so inexcusable for a veteran starting QB, and yet this is something he continues to do. I have never really been a Sirianni fan and I still can’t answer what he tangibly does for this team, but if Jalen gave even backup QB quality play yesterday and against the bears this team is at minimum 3-1 but likely 4-0.

Jalen Hurts needs to be a backup QB somewhere.

I’m not quite ready to agree with that yet, but it’s trending the wrong way and at minimum this HC QB combo seems to be nearing its end.

Yup, that turn down was the type of play many of Hurts’ naysayers point to.

I still think he can be a winning quarterback (duh) with a run game to support him on early downs, but that’s a tougher needle to thread especially if you’re looking 3-4 years out when he will be less of a threat in the QB-inclusive run game.

I’m not a coach or an offensive coordinator but I’ll bet I could do a better job than Sean Mannion, because evidently I have eyes and a brain and he must not or why would he continue to call the most predicable bullshit plays over and over again and never ever seem to adjust the game plan when things are not working or even on the rare moments when they have something that works. Slants to Lemon worked every time but he stops doing it almost instantly. The Rams loaded up on one side of the line on D and we never shifted over. And the unfuckingbelievably stupid 4th down calls…words fail when it’s obvious he was hired to be the anti-Patullo yet here we are even slower, dumber and less entertaining than that pant load of crap last year. I dont think I’ve ever been angrier as a Birds fan of many decades at what a shitshow this team is now. I and I’m sure many of us saw the inevitable loss coming the second they lined up for the 4th down when a simple 20 yard field goal would have probably salted the game away. I’d fire the dude tonight and put anyone else there- they couldn’t do a worse job.
