I’m glad you wrote about this, Zach. While there are things that Hurts can improve on (such as holding on the ball too long at times), it seems that he receives an inordinate amount of criticism even when the team is winning due to the optics of their run-heavy playing style. If Hurts lights in up in the Super Bowl and wins, that would be great (in part to help silence the detractors), but I’d rather they continue to lean on the running game if that’s the best way for them to win against KC.

After listening to both Sirianni’s and Hurts’ post game pressers, it’s hard to take anything else away from Jalen Hurts other than the fact that he is focused on winning football games and becoming an NFL legend as ZB so eloquently puts it above. Stats are just not going to matter to him. As long as his coaches and teammates continue to speak up and lay their bodies on the line for Jalen, we will see more championship appearances from this iteration…whether we win the next game or not.

I think the reason this question comes up is because we aren’t sure that he can. The 2022 SB game was a great game by Hurts, but that was also a scheme that the rest of the league figured out the next year – so is is natural for there to be doubt about whether or not he can do so running a more pro-style traditional passing offense.

Keep in mind that Siriani, the coach, seems to also think that the best way to win with Hurts is by having him throw as little as possible – so it is natural for us fans to wonder. The Steelers game and this NFCC game go a long way towards assuaging those concerns but IMO, a larger sample size would make everyone feel happier.

(And I agree with the sentiment that this a team sport and as long as the offense created by the Eagles continues to hum, it doesn’t matter how it does so. There are a lot of things Hurts does do that are very good – the one thing I would love to see him improve is being slightly less cautious with the football. He doesn’t have to be reckless but a smidge more aggressive with throwing it would help overall, even if it leads to few more INTs more a year)
