I’ve heard so much talk about how you want a T/G who can play guard near term and transition to tackle long term. How often does this actually happen though? People are talking about it like it’s extremely common.

Todd Herremans, Shawn Andrews (abruptly retired but made the switch), Mekhi Becton (Tackle with the Jets), Jason Peters are examples just on the Eagles in recent memory.

I’m not asking about just anybody who switched positions, specifically started at guard and moved to tackle successfully as a starter. I don’t think Peters ever played guard. He went from tight end in college to tackle in the NFL. Becton, as you said, went the opposite direction. Ditto for Herremans. Nobody you listed meets the criteria I listed above.
It seems to me it’s a lot more rare than people have been making it sound.
