Great analysis thanks for sharing. This angles make it more clear what Jalen was seeing, opposed to the replays during the game they looked like deplorable throws.

AuthorThanks Elijah! It’s true – those throws were less than ideal – but that’s why I always wait for full judgement until the film comes out. They weren’t the best decisions – but at least I understood what he was thinking on them after watching the tape.

People harp on Barkley for the “dancing” and it’s true that he can get himself into trouble hunting for a big play, but it’s important to remember that this is the first even decent offensive line he has ever played behind. He was at Penn State when its offensive line was at its worst: the sanctions in 2012-13 killed their recruiting along the lines, and it took almost a decade for Penn State to turn things around with the offensive line. And obviously we know how bad it has been in New York. Very exciting to see what is possible when a guy this talented plays on an offense with real players.

Interesting analysis on the Hurts turnovers – as well as the take that he was top 7 in being careful with the ball.
That last one took me by surprise, given the number of INTs Hurts threw last year – even factoring in that some of them were not his fault.
Do you agree with that assertion or is it another case of PFF being PFF?

The benefit of services like PFF (and others) is that it allows us to stay grounded with what we see from the teams we watch every week. Watching Jalen Hurts as closely as we do, it’s easy to point to games like last week and yell ‘BAD DECISION MAKER!!!!’
Were those bad decisions? Yes. But, contextually, when you compare him to the rest of the league, that has not been an issue for him during his time as a starter.

One thing that I noticed on every snap out of the gun, Dickerson is watching Hurts and when he lifts his leg, Dickerson reaches out to tap Jurgens. That’s not something I have noticed before.

AuthorHey Todd – no that is nothing new. The RG has always done that in the Eagles offense (and in many other schemes). When the offense is in a silent count, the RG gives the C the go-ahead because the center can’t always hear the QB’s cadence.
