Personally, I think the Sirianni hatred is insane. The man has won at a rate far exceeding any other Eagles coach in team history. Glad Jeffrey kept him around!!

“cxoach” is a typo, as is “to-list”

I love the fact that Sirianni cares so much about being prepared for every possible situation, studying two-minute drills, every turnover, every fourth down decision. That is exactly what you want to see from any coach, but more specifically a coach who is in charge of the more big picture stuff.

However, I can’t help but think that this work has not translated to Sirianni being elite in the areas of game and clock management. Similarly, it does not seem to have translated to Hurts either, as the end-of-the-first-half series in the Rams game (when Hurts audibled to a QB draw on fourth-and-8 in minus territory) could have been one of the most potentially catastrophic decisions I have ever seen. I just wish they were the best in the league at the little details, as that level of preparation would lead you to believe they would be. They are simply not. Honestly, I think if Sirianni did not have an almost automatic short yardage play to lean on, he would probably be pretty conservative on fourth down decisions, too.

Having said all that, this is the best Birds team of my lifetime, and I am probably sounding pretty spoiled here. It would be nice to also have a top 5 coach, but my guess is that Lurie and Roseman ultimately want a guy in that position who is malleable to how they want the team run.

Good article, Zach.

If I can nitpick a little, all that stuff about culture, connection: those are not things that Siriani does, those are goals he is trying to achieve with the things he does. All the cliches and speeches dont mean anything if there is no substance behind them – and the fact that the locker room still has Siriani’s back indicates that there IS substance there.

Some of it was touched upon in the second half of the article, but it would be very cool to get a little more insight into HOW Siriani enforces accountability, or the degree to which he is involved in the game plan (is he involved in the development or does he just sign off with some edits on what Moore proposes), etc. What are some of these details that he is diving down into?

“A day in the life” kind of article, with some illustrative examples would help, because all we see/hear as fans is just the locker room speeches and press conference cliches.

Of course, I dont know how much of this is something the Eagles will release, but something to add in the slow summer days?

This is why ZB is the best football writer around. All fans and even other reporters have are opinions or annoying hot takes on “what exactly does Sirianni do?” ZB does actual legwork to answer the question. This probably won’t shut down the discussion about whether a “CEO coach” actually contributes anything. But it should.
