NEWARK -- The third time was indeed the charm for the New Jersey Devils. For the Philadelphia Flyers, who had taken down the Devils twice in the previous 12 days, not so much.
After a scoreless first period largely controlled by the Flyers, the Devils took complete control in the second and overwhelmed the road team with four goals, sparking their comfortable 5-0 victory. Sam Ersson (12 saves on 16 shots) was pulled after the fourth Devils goal, forcing projected Thursday starter Ivan Fedotov to finish out the game.
Jake Allen earned the shutout for New Jersey, stopping 24 shots in the victory.
