PHILADELPHIA -- As the Philadelphia Flyers players moved towards center ice to give their booing fans one last salute at the final home game of the 2024-25, the lights of the Wells Fargo Center began to flicker on and off.
A fitting metaphor for a season of unexpected exits and dashed expectations.
In their "home closer" on Tuesday night, the Flyers fell to the Columbus Blue Jackets by a 3-0 final score. The Blue Jackets, by virtue of their win, remained alive in the Eastern Conference playoff race, though they'll need a Montreal Canadiens loss on Wednesday (and a regulation win of their own on Thursday) to lock down the final available wild card spot.
