Not specifically related to this game or even this season specifically – one thing the Flyers need to also think about as they develop their core is having some players with size and physicality.
I am not talking about going back to the Bully days – but even today, teams need skill AND a little bit of grit/physicality in the playoffs – and not the 4th line enforcer variety but in your top 3 lines: the players who can contribute with the puck and also by their physical play.
Risto is about the only player they have who fits that bill – and he’s likely trade bait. Hathaway does that very well as a 4th liner but they need a more physical forward in the top 9 as well.

You’re forgetting Seeler.

True, I did. He’s actually a really good glue guy right now – the kind of complementary bottom half players all teams need. But isn’t he 32 or something, which would mean he doesn’t really fit the timeline by when the team is hopefully starting to contend?
It’s funny – after years of the Flyers picking big slow gritty players, I never thought the day would come when I’d be worried about the team being too small.

Despite his age, he’s still signed for three more seasons

Hopefully by playing Zamula and him not completely shitting the bed will make him more valuable in a trade package. That’s at least what I tell myself to keep my sanity about Andrea still being in the AHL.
