Great summary. Now that they have some cap room, if they want to pull off what the Caps did last summer and start competing sooner they should consider keeping Risto. Their D is too small without him. And now that Risto has turned into someone good, big D can tend to play well into their mid to late 30’s. So he could likely be a good big defensemen for 5 or more years.

Risto has turned out be a pretty serviceable D-man, true. But with Bonk hopefully joining next year and possibly Hunter McDonald nipping for a 3rd pairing role, that could be the size they need, as well.

And getting a physical, stay-at-home 3rd pairing D-man shouldn’t be that difficult, I think.

I love how I can clearly tell how annoyed Charlie is by the Flyers fans who actually hate the Flyers every time I hear him speak or read his writing. It must be truly horrible to be so miserable the time. I wonder how they’ll react when the team is good again.

Lost in everything else was another strong performance by Sam Ersson. The dude has been a rock since Christmas, which is a significant stretch of time. I really believe when he isn’t battling injury the guy is a good to very good starting goalie. He needs to develop more consistency of course and stay healthy, but he continues to show how good he can be when he’s on his game.
