Is there an option for him to play in Europe this year like Matthews did? Or since he has been drafted is that not allowed?
If he can, he could attend training camp and then if he doesn’t make the team go to Europe and play against men instead of the OHL.

I agree that Bump probably has the inside track, and deservedly so. There’s no reason to rush Martone. I say give him a year in college, get him some more quality experience, and have him ready to go next year.

I was always kind of on the fence about a 5’8″ player in Shabanov (even though he has some crazy skills), so if this paves the way to get both of these guys here this year I’m good.

My question is this: are the fans going to boo Shabanov every time he touches the puck, or turn around and boo the press box where the beat writers (sans Charlie) sit for getting our hopes up?

While I would love to have Martone make the team right out of the gate, I can’t help but think that one year of NCAA would be more beneficial to him. Tough to say, but I would hope the Flyers shoot him straight, so he can be in college and not end up having to spend another year in juniors.

I was under the impression one of martone’s qualities is he has an advanced body (and age) relative to his drafted peers, and that his skill level is sufficient to put him in an NHL top 6 day one.

If that’s true, it seems a waste of a year to have him not playing in the NHL. If he’s ready physically and hes highly skilled, that is where he will sharpen his iron best.

I’m also biased bc i want to watch him play on the flyers this year, but whatever, find a spot for the guy!

The choice seems to be easy for Bump to make the NHL roster out of camp. The other possible open wing seems to be a bit more complicated for Martone as you have laid out Charlie, with no clear best option. Looking at this, the NCAA seems like the best route for this season as Martone still needs some work but not much. The OHL seems like the least desirable route for him. I would actually like to see Grebenkin get a shot at the 2nd open wing.
