The Flyers clearly are not making all top prospects feel comfortable about their future with the team. Gauthier probably wanted to play on the NHL team instead of going back to college for his last year there. If Flyers are truly rebuilding, then why the heck not let the kid make the team and play at the NHL level a year earlier??? Then this Kovolov situation, they ship him to crappy Allentown and sit him for 6 weeks, with no Russian natives to befriend the kid, to help with acclimation, language, etc… Flyers have a hole here in meeting the desires of top prospects. If they make Michkov play one minute at Allentown, somebody should get fired. A little more nurturing seems to be an organizational need here.

AuthorThat’s really not what happened with the Gauthier situation at all, at least as I understand it. It was Gauthier who first expressed a belief that he thought he wanted to go back to school for his sophomore year; his coach had strongly recommended it.
Perhaps Gauthier wanted the Flyers to more strongly try to talk him out of it, and when they didn’t, he felt slighted. I don’t know. But the idea that the Flyers “wouldn’t let” Gauthier turn pro is a myth.

I find it hard to believe that the Flyers – an organization that has historically always taken good care of its players – “mistreated” Kolosov.
I believe the answer is some mix of Kolosov wanting to play in the NHL faster and indeed, being homesick. This should be something that the Flyers are able to resolve, i think/hope.

seems like he wants to go Nashville in a trade for Askarov! obviously flyers would need a lot more than kolosov to get that deal done, but instead of playing games with a decent prospect who doesn’t seem committed to being here we should go get a guy who is considered a top 3 goalie prospect.

The only way that works is by moving Ersson or Fedotov since Askarov refuses to play in the AHL.

This feels to me like (pure speculation) like there’s been some miscommunication between the parties. Not out of the question with language barriers involved. Seems like it’s time for someone to hop on a plane and go have a face-to-face conversation and sort it out.
I can’t help but admit I’m starting to get a complex about our prospects not wanting to be here.

I know its easy to lump the CG situation with this one, but IMO, it’s apples and oranges. I could be wrong, but reading between the lines, it appears that CG was promised an ELC by Chuck Fletcher following is freshman year. When Briere took over, they wanted him to play another year of college which CG resented and soured to the Flyers new management team. With Kolosov, it seems more a combination of not being comfortable coming over, and maybe a little feeling blocked getting to the NHL, at least for this year. I also agree with you about the language issue. It’s hard enough to convince or “sell” someone on your vision to begin with, and then adding in a translator makes it even more complex. That said, I think the Flyers plan to have him be the starter in LV this year and re-evaluate at the end of the season is the right course of action.
