Has it been considered that Flyers leadership is artificially propping up Jett’s performance to justify taking him? They took a lot of incoming fire for that pick and I’m sure they are very interested in being “right”.

I’ve considered this, too. Luchanko making the roster might be a very welcome development for the front office after they were skewered by quite a few of the national media members post-draft along with quite a few local media members for passing on Buium and “reaching” for Luchanko. “Hey, look … we were right!” Probably driven by Torts but maybe he had a willing audience.

Why is everything being driven by Torts?

It’s odd the flyers are rushing a prospect given a supposed rebuild. I agree Charlie, he clearly hasn’t blown the door down, which you think would be a prerequisite for making the team as a young 18 year old. Playing 12-13 minutes a night doesn’t seem like a great way to develop his offensive game and turn him into a top 6 center. It feels like there’s some weird undercurrent here with Torts wanting to win this year…

This is a short audition to give him a taste of what the NHL is like, before he gets sent down. And maybe a bit of a reward for coming into camp super fit and playing hard.
I doubt very much that he’s going to be up for the full season, unless he really takes his game up a notch. The Flyers have clearly said that they want him to develop his offensive game – so i am pretty sure they are aware that having him play a few minutes in the NHL is not the way to do so (as they have shown with other players).
Not sure why there is so much angst over this. Let the kid have his few games in the big league.

Call me jaded, but the Flyers’ inability to do the right thing around player development and drafting over the last 10-15 years has me thinking otherwise. The way Torts is speaking also makes this seem like it could be the whole season unless he completely bombs. I’m rooting for the kid, but I disagree with the strategy here. I think Alex or Dom (can’t remember which) wrote an interesting article around rushing 18 year olds as well.
