I always enjoy your insights and opinions. Your insight here that so many number 1 centers weren’t taken in the top 5 or even top 10 is a good one. In light of the rebuild and the tanking debate, with that new insight it would be good to look at other ‘rebuilds’ and analyze their processes. Ones that worked (Colorado’s is the only clear one in my mind), and others that haven’t yet (Buffalo, Ottawa, NJD) and my favorite, Toronto. Toronto’s a great example of a team that tanked for Mathews, had 3 high picks in a row (Nylander, Marner then Mathews) and 7 years later is still struggling to be a top cup contender. Fools gold.
