Tocchet is right on the money with that end of article comment. This team has been and remains maddeningly inconsistent. Travis Konecny in the brief interview he gave between the last two periods on the broadcast, already looked beaten, both by facial experssions and general demeanor. Right now, too often this team is just boring to watch.

I posted after the Winnipeg game that this season for me was not getting too excited or upset after wins and losses. This was a season to show improvement in the PK and PP and play competitive hockey.

I was wrong. The Flyers absolutely stunk the joint out last night. It was a disgrace to lose to that team. Worst in the league in goals for and against and you come up with 1 goal when the game is damn near over. They looked like they had no interest in playing last night. Not a single player on that team came to play. How many times last night did they dump the puck in where Wolf was able to stop any potential offensive flow. Hell JJ and Booth were talking about it early in the second period.
Really do the Flyers lead the league in missing the net with shots? I mean holy cow. I bet not a player on this team could have picked the puck up and hit the net by throwing it. How many times do we need to see Tippett carry the puck between the face off dots when there are 3 and 4 guys from the other team sitting there.
And TK is he still searching for a puck he continually loses sight on when he attempts to make a pass on. How many giveaways did he have last night.

They bring this to Montreal they will get smoked big time. Montreal is not Calgary. They will make the Flyers pay for their lackluster, uninspired play, atrocious play.

This team needs a Jeff Carter–someone who will err on the side of getting the puck on the net.

Tocchet hockey is boring and archaic. This is not an overreaction, this is his M.O. Let’s hope it’s not so boring that Michkov doesn’t want to sign an extension next season. Would have much preferred a coach with an uptempo system like Lavy had while he was here

it was an ugly game for sure. tocch teams are boring in general to be honest. shots on goal are a real concern given tocch’s track record.

So far, Tocchet is not very impressive IMO. Its incredible how he is handling MM. This budding superstar needs minutes and freedom to roam and create. Defense does not win hockey games. Goal scoring does. It is interesting, MM thrived under Shaw at the end of last season. Torts and Tocchet require you play their way, whereas Shaw let MM be MM. For me, a student of over 50 years watching sports intently, great coaches adjust their “systems” to the talent they inherit, and lousy coaches force square pegs into their “system” round holes. Its really about a coach’s ego. Players score goals and win, coaches do not score goals. It may be time for DB and Jonesy to sit Tocchet down and have a discussion on how to make the very few elite players on this roster feel free enough to be their best, which is truly best for the Flyers. TK passing up a great shot is clear evidence he is already intimidated by Tocchet. Apparently Tocchet is working on intimidating MM to play Tocchet’s desired way. I am not impressed. DB and Jonesy may have a problem on their hands with their choice of a coach. For me, after how loose the team played under Shaw, I would have given him an opportunity to coach the team for a year or two (as Phils did with perennial assistant Rob Thompson, to great success BTW), and develop the young talent. May end up being a big mistake by the inexperienced GM and Prez. The minutes restriction on MM is unfathomable and darn near coaching misconduct. Can anyone imagine if young talent like Forsberg, Crosby, or Lindros were held to 13 minutes per game in their second year in the league? Wow. At this rate, He could lose the locker room by New Years.

Charlie, you sum up the game well with: “a toothless, lifeless display.” I also agree with your rating and would like to have the time back that it took to watch this clunker.
