This was more of what i was expecting against the Canes – the Flyers wont really outplay them but can hopefully keep things close and hope for a lucky bounce or two.

I heard one more person (ever) say Coots shouldn’t be Captain I swear I will get Guido the Killer Pimp to chase them down in his Caddy. He has been everywhere, every night.

Mitchkov had the best chance in OT and shot the puck low instead of going high. I wanted that goal for him so bad.

Flyers “D” other than Risto played reasonably well. However, Charlie said it best. They just can’t seem to finish. This team very badly needs a sniper that connects, at least often enough to make a difference. If they can somehow grab the next two at home, this could become a three game series. At this point though, it looks like a distant dream. We really need a healthy Tippett back also. No matter what happens, you have to like the general direction of the team and it’s future.

You nailed it – they have a lot of very good talent. They need atleast one ELITE goal scorer. Martone and Michkov are the two players on the roster who have the best odds of being that elite scorer – Tippett is very good but he hasn’t touched 30 goals in his career yet. And they need a comparable center to maximize M&M.

I am very proud of the effort the team put forth last night. They held their own against a very good team and I expect games 3 and 4 to be the same.

The reality? The things the Flyers could not do last night is what has plagued them all season. Not enough scoring, finishing your opportunities and the inepitude of the Power Play. The coaching staff must make it the priority come the off season. Even if they could have knocked in 1 more PP goal last night they win. Teams don’t care if they take a penalty against the Flyers. They have no fear of being down a man.

On to game 3.

The kid obviously has a bright, bright future, but as you say, Charles: “Porter Martone seemingly hitting the ‘I’m just 19 and was playing against college kids a month and a half ago’ rookie wall.”

In fact, he looks completely lost out there too often, just not pretty, at all.

TK is a disaster in the playoffs. 2 career goals in 30 games?!? He needs to be much better… meanwhile. Ol’ Coots is playing out of his mind and the best player on the ice aside from Vladar.

Coots and Sanheim have played very well. We have to be better at finishing and the PP is dreadful. We forget how to pass, not just shoot, on the PP.

You touched on all the right points. This game was such a shame to lose but all it really did was to let the Canes hold serve. If the Flyers can do two more things I think they can tie this series up. The coaching staff has turned this team around in almost every aspect except the power play. I wish they would just forgo passing altogether and just shoot any chance they get. It is a simple strategy that can lead directly or indirectly to goals. The puck can just go in, be deflected, or put in via a rebound. Keep it simple, please. 🙏 The other thing is finishing which is just basically shooting on target. All roads lead back to them shooting, it really should be their primary focus in the offensive zone. If they concentrate on this they can win, not only Game 3 but more in this series. Go Flyers!!

Thanks Charlie. In most sports shooting needs a touch. That gets lost a bit in frenzied play. It’ll come back in spades if they 2 more games like this one. Series result? No prediction , that’s why you play the game.

Anderson in the past has struggled with jam plays at his feet would like to see the Flyers try to stretch Carolina high up top on PP and throw it down low and take it to the blue paint
