Have they made any strategic changes yet? All I see is management running in front of cameras to say “work harder” and signing up a 30+ year old bottom sixer.

Coached and playing like an expansion team from the 90s.

No one has really picked up on this (Tocchet quoted by Kurz): “At least eight, nine times, with a guy on your back, we just can’t win that battle,” he said. “Can it get better? Yeah. It has to. Or we have to find other people. You can’t just lose those battles all the time.”

That “find other people” bit has a lot built into it.

Nothing in this article can be argued with. It is dead on. Especially this:
“With around six minutes remaining in the first period, Denver Barkey did something that all too often this season, Flyers players have passed up: he carried the puck through the middle of the ice through the neutral zone to create offense”
That is one of the most accurate statements about this team that I’ve seen.
Let’s face it. Whether they want to admit it or not, we are now at rock bottom of a full rebuild. With so many inexperienced, fringe, also older, slower, unmotivated players, there is nowhere to go but up. If we are truly this bad, and all indicators show that we are, then it might be time to just fully tank and shoot for the top of the next draft. This does not look like anything is going to improve anytime soon. In Philly in all of our pro sports, all too often, once players get a rich contract, they just seem to go away, then, the level of play that won them that contract disappears. We need to go to an incentive type contract if that would even be possible. In Philly right now, we are coming into the desert again. Hope the Sixers show something…..

If Bonk did play top pair with Sanheim he would have been 2nd pair with Seeler with second toughest matchups. I’m not sure that’s better. 3rd pair with Benoit means Jircek 2nd pair and Bonk the better all round players so I don’t see top pair being as bad as you think. There were no great choices here with the injuries.

Sanheim-Drysdale
Seeler-Bonk
Benoit-Jiricek

To me that’s a no-brainer. Seeler is used to being the stabilizing partner for young, inexperienced players anyway.

On the 3rd pair yes but I see Seeler playing out of his depth on the 2nd pair so not definitely better. But possibly better.

This may be the only way to get that critical 1-C young elite talent. Gotta tank. So far, so good. Can they lose them all? Maybe by the looks of things.

Well done article pointing out the glaring mistakes that this team continually makes. Also, I appreciate you highlighting the malpractice of Tocchet pairing Bonk with Sanheim. That is just dumb. I also question him not opening up the game when down multiple goals. You are losing, sticking to a defensive structure is not smart, is he worried about Save %? Also, he padded Michkov’s shifts at the end of the game with 2 quick ones so it doesn’t appear he is sitting him which he obviously is. And why was he taken off PP1 over the weekend? Talk about dumb moves. I thought Michkov was helping to win faceoffs on the PP…does he even want his team to score??
