Maybe they have learned, that last year was a mistake. They went for the playoffs instead of gaining a top five draft pick for the rebuild. Last year was a lost opportunity. Look, they have one young stud, Michkov, and why? Because they got the 7th overall draft pick. No surprise, he leads this bag of average to poor roster in goals and assists and more. But obviously, one stud is not enough. They need to pick in the top 5 of the next couple of drafts to round out the necessary elite talent for a cup contender. So, with this said, to be honest, if the goal is to build a cup contender, then losing 6 straight games to start the season is fantastic. Keep losing. Gain a top 5 pick in this coming draft. Do it again next year too. Konecny is a nice player, above average, but not what they need to build around for the future. Nice complement. Goaltending stinks. Defense stinks. Scoring stinks. Gotta get some serious talent in here, so lose lose lose. There is no other way, unless Brierre can make raise your eyebrows clever trades, or they can get lucky with a superstar FA signing once they get out of salary cap jail. Losing is the only way for now.

Last year they had everyone playing very simple hockey and took advantage of being in better shape and more ready to play in the early part of the season. That can’t last through and other more skilled teams eventually catch up.

This year it looks like they are trying to play good hockey but don’t have the skill, which we knew. I think it would be a regression for the team if Torts just had them simplify the game and try and score off counter rushes and firing a million shots.

Let them fail, send Jet back, trade anyone they can, bring up every AHL guy to actually see what they are, and then take another top 5 pick to go along with our other 2 first round picks.

Win-loss doesn’t matter.

What matters is the development of the players.
