I fully expect Carolina to cane the Flyers. 4-2 Canes. But this is the sort of series where a lucky bounce or two might change things.
It’s all low stress for me from now on.

A bit corny Tocchet said?
That’s exactly what teammates want , what fans love and well, what people in general need.
We all need as much of that as possible.
Go Flyers !!!

I’ll eat crow. I was vexed that Briere didn’t turn the other way and sell at the trade deadline. Felt like the race going to the playoffs served only to move the Flyers further down the draft and miss out on needed talent. Pushing into the playoffs and beating the Penguins in Philly in a hard-earned OT shutout… that makes the season feel like a win.
Winning this series vindicates all the actions taken to the point. It also shows what a difference having a dependable goalie makes–something the Flyers haven’t had in a long time.
Looking at the Hurricanes, I don’t think anyone can realistically expect the Flyers to win this series. Canes didn’t play their talent when they played earlier this month, and the Flyers have only one other win against them since 2021 (being in 2023). I remember a stretch when playing either the Canes was basically like, losing was embarrassing–implying the Flyers made too many mistakes and gave away a free game. But it hasn’t been like that in awhile. I’d be impressed if the Flyers win two games.

Charlie is a poet! Great article. Let’s go beat the Canes!!!!!

Even as a member of team tank, this was amazing. Success this early is a treat. Even if we get swept by Carolina this season is a success.

I’m over the moon right now.
Fourth line Coots has been fantastic and I know “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it,” but I wonder if they look at moving him back up to a scoring line. With the way he protects the puck in the offensive zone, it would be nice to see him passing to an offensive weapon. He certainly has his legs back. We shall see, let’s go flyers!

No matter what happens from here, this season is now a huge success. Dan Vladar is the first Flyer’s goalie since our beloved Bernie (at least in my mind) to look so unbeatable when it was absolutely necessary. The first three games of the series were like a fairy tale in how much fun it was to watch. I agree that after that, it seemed like a completely different Pens team had shown up. If the Pens had switched to Silovs sooner, it might have been a different outcome as the Flyers seemed to have more trouble getting the puck past him. Give Toccett(who I think should be hands down the Jack Adams winnter) credit along with the team for the ability to come out on top of the first playoff series they were in after such a long absence. Coots also came up huge in the series and has shown why the team respects him so much.
In the next series, if the Flyer’s can harass Seth Jarvis the way they did at the start of this series against Crosby, they might be able to also get off to a quick start in that one. Again, can’t wait to see how it goes….Man we have missed playoff hockey!

I am just ecstatic! To beat the Penguins, a team I loathe just made the season for me. It’s all house money now. I don’t expect them to beat the Canes but that is why we play the game, right? Hopefully they give Carolina fits but I just couldn’t be happier at this moment.
Thank you hockey gods (and DB) for Dan Vladar. Just spectacular goal tending! Finally, the Flyers have a goalie.
I am not done celebrating last night’s win. I am wearing my Flyers shirt to today’s 1230 Phillies game!
Go Flyers! On to Carolina.

The stick throw is the Flyers’ version of the Rhys Hoskins bat spike.

Thanks for your coverage Charlie!

I love York’s reaction to being asked about his celebration, lmao

Sorry, another post.
We crave SCs, we obsess about the rebuild, etc. That’s all well and good. Bit this game was a timely reminder of how much FUN playoff hockey can be.
Even if they had lost this game, those near 4 periods of hockey were an absolute blast. And ultimately, isn’t that why we watch sports?
I am old enough to be a fan during the Lindros era, They didn’t win any Cups. But those playoffs battles with Ulf Samuelson, Matthew Barnaby, Igor Ulanov and, of course, Scott Stevens and Bobby Holik have stuck with me all day here years later.
There really is nothing in sports like playoff hockey as a fan of a competitive team.

*all these years later.

great read thanks charlie

That was a Nate Thompson esq win

That was a tale of survival that you captured well through your words. What a game, it was nothing but absolute drama from the third period on. Both teams actually played well especially the goaltenders, hats off to both of them. Vladar’s performance will go down as one of the very best in Flyers playoff history. He has single handedly made the Flyers contenders. This year’s playoffs has already been memorable and that is really all that you can ask. I couldn’t be happier for the boys, the coaches, and the front office. They have all delivered a quality product to us fans. I hope this ride never ends and I look forward to your continuing coverage! Let’s Go Flyers!!

Another excellent article by Charlie.
Spot on.
