This is what DB does not have a clue about. They should have tanked last year, get into the top five of the draft in 2024, instead, they let Torts run them up into the mid range of the first round, and then settle for Jett. Jett is not a first line center prospect. He may not even be a second line center on a championship team. This article is missing an emphasis on a key point. Jett can skate fast, but he cannot do an important thing: score a goal. Lousy moves, lousy shot, no skill to score. So big deal, he gets up the ice fast only to miss the net. Flyers need a stud first line Center to grow with Michkov and lead this team to a Cup for the coming decade. That is not found in the middle of the first round. What do you get in that range? Centers missing a key skill, such as, uh, scoring a goal. DB is now blowing another great opportunity for Flyers to draft a 1-C in the top five of the 2025 draft, by allowing a hungry to impress new coach to lead a sorry roster to a strong of wins to end a dreadful season, and end up picking outside the top five. More mediocrity from the GM, failing to find a 1-C. It should be his primary focus. Grab the chance, DB, lose out, and get a 1-C in the 2025 top five of the draft. How? IR the top half dozen players the last 6 games, with hangnails, belly aches, headaches, bad moods, optirectalitis (crappy outlook on life), whatever it takes, but lose out DB. Shaw cannot do it. Players cannot do it, but you as a GM can IR the top six players and cause a lose out that gets you a 1-C in this year’s draft. It should be your primary objective as a GM at this moment in the organization’s history.

Great article! I really enjoyed reading this and learning more about Luchanko. I’m more of a casual hockey fan so seeing those gifs were really nice visuals to connect with the words you were writing.

That’s nice – but what is the plan at goalie? This has been a problem since 1985. RIP Pelle.
