“Once we hit 10 OT losses we had to rethink our strategy”

Just an unbelievable quote from Tocchet. This is what you get when you hire a name instead of a coach. I never bought into him from the first time his name was floated because of his system’s enforced lack of creativity, which is death for the development of a player like Michkov. The fact that he still might not have seen the ice in OT is unconscionable.

Enjoy your 13 minutes of ice time moving forward, young man! It’s all that your dinosaur of a coach will grant you.

Apropos of nothing – but even though i understand why they do it, the dump&chase style of hockey that the Flyers play is so mind-numbingly boring to watch.

Does it matter if the team you are rooting for does well, if the sport they play is hard to watch and enjoy?

They really don’t dump-and-chase as much as people seem to think they do. They carry the puck in less than they did under Torts (Years 2 & 3). But they’re up over 47% controlled entry rate since the start of December.

Thanks for that.

If that’s the case – and i am sure you are correct with this – i am very surprised, because I would have SWORN that they are playing a possession-focused, along-the-boards game a LOT more this season compared to last.

That is pretty bad that “pressure from above” would be necessary to get Tocchet to give the only potential elite talent in the entire organization more ice time and more OT ice time. Tocchet needs to go. Wrong coach to develop young elite talent. Will he ruin Martone also? If its him or MM, easy decision, bounce T.

Now, if only there was a coach who would teach players to play the right way and with discipline, while still letting them play to their strengths…. maybe someone Michkov respected and had really good production under.

Oh wait. 🙂

Your game summary was on point, Charlie! I especially liked the “Frustration” section. You are a better man than me giving Ersson the second star especially given this statement that I couldn’t agree more with: “Ersson can’t be fully absolved for the Carrick goal, though.” He did have a good game otherwise and was a big reason for the win, it is just that he doesn’t have any money in the bank to be giving up a goal like that.
