NEW YORK CITY — Another brutal loss, in a season of brutal losses.
The Philadelphia Flyers entered the third period with a 2-1 lead over the New York Rangers, and just 20 minutes away from their first win of the season over a Metropolitan Division opponent. But it all came apart over an 89-second span, as goals by Pavel Dorofeyev and Tye Kartye pushed the Rangers to a 3-2 victory and sent the Flyers to their fifth loss in six games.
“That’s inexcusable. You’re up 2-1, and then you give them the goals we gave, that’s inexcusable,” head coach Rick Tocchet said after the loss.
Noel Acciari and Simon Benoit scored the Flyers, while Joseph Woll stopped 25 shots in defeat. Dylan
Garand made 23 saves in the win.

Tocchet can publicly slander Michkov for 18 months and leverage media against him, but Michkov cannot defend himself or voice frustration. It has to work both ways
Matt
TK should have been traded for picks instead of resigned, now he’s unmovable. Coots is a washed up C who excites fans by overplaying a 4th line role. Devo was signed after a career year in a bad team and is underperforming now to no one’s surprise. Seeler is a body out there for sure who often gets hit by pucks. What a team.
Meanwhile our coach is trying to protect 1 goal leads and overplaying vets instead of developing our best players because he’s worried about getting fired. Good thing we don’t tank for this “culture”.
Clean house, trade the vets for anything, bring up all the kids, even if we lose 7-5 every night at least it will be fun to watch.

Completely agree. Bite the bullet. Start all over with the kids and a NEW COACH. Torts handled MM pretty well. RK is clueless on how to develop young talent. RK was a very good player, but is brutal as a coach. Enough already. Make the change in season, right now.

I really feel like we need to hear from Briere/Jones at this point. I can’t believe this start to the season is acceptable in any way. And there is plenty of data about how teams perform under Tocchet’s coaching available–given that the Flyers are following the same pattern as his previous teams it deserves questioning.
I tend to side with Michkov here. It’s hard to single him out for overstaying shifts when others on the team do the same thing with no issue.

The good news for Danny and Jonesy is that this week they were bumped down to only the second most embarrassing public rebuke of a leadership that prioritizes culture above all else this year.
Bob MCH
Culture is down the tubes, so that strategic plan failed. So, let’s get real, and switch up and tank into acquiring elite talent, and after acquiring enough elite talent, then, go get a stud elite coach, who has proven he can take a young talented roster to the Cup. DB and Jonesy are running out of time to get this right.

The question is are they even capable or willing to get it right?

I think if the Flyers brass sides with Tocchet over Michkov, that’s it for me. This franchise has been immensely frustrating for the past 15 years and blowing it with one of their most talented young players of the future—a guy they worked hard to win over pre-draft…that plus losing out on Gauthier means this organization cannot be trusted to develop the high-end talent it has desperately needed for the past decade.
And with no other foreseeable changes to the culture/Flyers Way, it would be time to just focus on something (team or sport) less toxic, willfully blind, and otherwise inept.
