Last time I play Charlie Brown to the Flyers proverbial Lucy as they yank the ball away from me. If they get in the playoffs, awesome…but I refuse to let them rip my heart out any more…this season (I’m too damn stupid to let it go further).

As much as flyers need a one C the defense needs a pp qb and first pairing defensemen …

They need to put Michov with players who can do something with his skill set. Sneaky good passes wasted on players not even expecting the puck. Other teams know when he gets the puck to just overwhelm him because even if he makes a great play there’s no one on his line that will take advantage of it. Foerster – Dvo – Michov and then Konecny – Zegras – Martone should be the top 2 lines. Barkey – cates – tippet the third line. Play them very close to equal time as there’s no clear 1st line. If they need a jump then mix up the lines so the players who have it going that night take advantage. But they have to play Michov with players who fit instead of north south crack the net types.

Yes, 100%. Michkov is wasted playing a grind-it-along-the-boards style. And while Cates is a fantastic 3C and a really, really useful player, I can’t recall a player scoring 12 points in 14 games (or whatever) and looking as invisible as he does when it comes to creating offense – and this is not a knock on him. That’s not his role. He simply shouldn’t be centering one of the top 2 most talented playmakers on the team.

Meanwhile, re advanced stats: while the Flyers did get a lot of shots off from high danger areas, there is a reason their actual GFs are usually lower than the xGF: most of the goals from the slot or wherever tend to happen due to crisp passing which catches the goalie moving from side to side. Observe the Flyers – most of the time, when they do shoot from the slot, the goalie is already square and facing the shooter.

The team is too small to play a heavy grind-it-game, and they dont really have a fast puck-carrier who can cause opposing Dmen to collapse back and open up the ice in the offensive zone.

I have visions of Forester and Martone being 40 goal scorers in the future.

The Good in this game was Martone, who looked every bit the part of an1st line winger. The Bad was the play by Sanheim. The Ugly was the officiating which was as bad as I have ever seen in a game. Beach is an embarrassment to the league and should be fired or at the very least fined or demoted. Gibson did not outplay Ersson, he simply got in the way of the puck which found him more than he found it. Such a shame given those impressive metrics.
