The Philadelphia Flyers still have 26 players in training camp, even after today’s cuts. But in reality, the final 23-man roster is close to taking full shape.
On Friday afternoon, the Flyers made decisions on their three most prominent remaining youngsters on the roster bubble — Cole Knuble, Jett Luchanko and Oliver Bonk. All entered camp on the outside looking in for a roster spot; all impressed despite that pre-camp status (especially Knuble and Luchanko). But in the end, none of them will start the year with the big club, as all of Knuble, Luchanko, Bonk and Jacob Gaucher were cut from camp and re-assigned to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms of the AHL.

Honestly this is good news. Let the young guys go down and tear it up, build on their existing chemistry. I’m relieved they didn’t try to rush things. It shows management learned from their past mistakes.
For this team to take a step we need our tendies to be healthy. Last year when Coots had his injury and was not playing well, my Coots bobblehead fell off my desk and broke into pieces. Later in the season I glued it back together and dude was a stud in the playoffs. Whoever is out there with a broken Vladar bobblehead, you know what to do.

Man, Tipp would make people look silly if he plays on the 3rd line when he’s on one of his heaters. Hell, he can do that to other teams’ top line…against an average 3rd line? It’ll be some serious highlights.

Charlie, please inform Coach Tocchet that all I ask for the first month of the season is a top line of Foerster-Zegras -Martone. If after that, the line is not performing, then he can feel free to swap TK in for Foerster.

Is it pleasantly bizarre for anyone else to see “Cap space: $13.78 million” when reading about this team’s finances? I know the cap went up, but kudos to Danny B for setting the table to acquire an impact player in the near future.

The young guys obviously need more time to learn the game as professionals. It also provides them with maximum ice time while they do so. Players such as Grundström have no such need so this all makes sense.
